KONGO-VILI
FIGURE
Standing female figure with a pointed cap. Traces of glass inlays remain in the eyes, a massive iron ring encircles the neck. The figure holds both hands to the breasts, the abdominal area filled with resin/wax. Set on a quadrangular base with marked corners. The surface shows a warm reddish-brown patina, partly glossy from use. The iron is heavily corroded.
The wax on the abdomen has formed a hard crust, emphasizing the figure's great age. It once held a piece of glass. The also visually hard and somewhat menacing wax crater imparts an intriguing additional layer to an otherwise graceful and harmoniously crafted sculpture.
