YORUBA

Dance Wand, Shango Cult

Important and magnificent sculpture of great age, endowed with many unique features. Characterized by the finest carving down to the smallest detail and crowned by an uncompromising double axe, with almost rough signs of use. A fascinating interplay, created by a master, perfected through years of worship.

Shango is the most important god in daily life in the complex Yoruba religion. "He is great, cruel and wild - endowed with the power to perform beneficial deeds." Shango appears in the form of a double axe, which is usually carried by a priestess or rarely - as this one - by a horse rider.
