Lulua

Squatting Figure

Squatting figures are common throughout the Congo region and are among the most elegant and complex works of African artists. Particularly common is this pose in the art of the Lulua. Probably not because this people squatted more, but rather because the virtuoso carvers liked the challenge of creating such complex and well-balanced objects.
